Sports Entrepreneurship and I2P Workshop
April 14, 2008 – 3:09 pmSports Entrepreneurship: Phil Rawlins on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, UTC 1.118, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
The market pain: Soccer is the largest sport in the world, with the most heavily attended games of any sport. Over 30 billion viewers watched the World Cup matches in Germany in2006. The sport is booming in North America with close to 14 million young athletes under the age of 18 playing soccer every week. The Austin area has over 35,000 young people and over 8,000 adults playing organized soccer, and is the largest city in the United States without a professional sports franchise.
The solution: Phil Rawlins is a successful technology entrepreneur who recently started The Austin Aztex Soccer Club and is an owner of Stoke City, a Football League Championship club in England. Founded in 1863, Stoke City is the second oldest club in soccer history. Phil Rawlins brings to the Austin Aztex many years of management experience in soccer operations and entrepreneurship. Come hear his story.
